Cream Cheese Frosting

Here’s a very basic, but still ridiculously delicious, cream cheese frosting recipe from the International Culinary Center in New York City.

  • 450g cream cheese
  • 180g butter, room temperature*
  • 350g powdered sugar
  • zest of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 tbsp sour cream
  • 1tsp vanilla

  1. Cream the cheese, butter, and powdered until smooth and soft
  2. Add the lemon zest, sour cream, and vanilla

*Room temperature butter should yield slightly when pressed. If it’s too soft, you risk adding too much powdered sugar to get to the desired consistency. If it’s too hard, the butter won’t blend well and you’ll most likely end up with a gross, gloppy mess. (Trust me on both. Unfortunately, I write from experience here.)
