Two weeks ago, my daughter had a horrible bout with the flu. It was a horrendous week – she wouldn’t eat, she wanted to be held the entire time, and she was just so weak. She ended up losing about 2 1/2 pounds which is a lot – almost 10% of her body weight. It was so hard to witness and of course, both my husband and I wished it were one of us that came down with the flu instead of her.
At the same time, she’s almost 2 1/2 years old and this was her first real illness – her first fever. The entire ordeal was definitely stressful, but there are children that suffer with much worse. One week of the flu is nothing compared to what these children and their parents go thru. If anything, this process made both my husband and I realize how lucky we were to have a healthy child and feel much more compassionate towards those who don’t. I can’t imagine.
Since she was feeling better by the weekend, we thought it would be fun to spend the morning at the Children’s Zoo. We visited the zoo a couple times last spring/summer which she loved, but haven’t been back since. She was so excited.
Here is my daughter at her favorite attractions:
Yep. Bubbles and ducks, both of which we have easy access to at home. Oh well.
